The paper deals with the removability of an isolated singularity of solutions to \[ \sum_{|\alpha|\leq 2}(-1)^{|\alpha|}D^\alpha A_{\alpha}(x,\nabla_2u)=0\text{ in } B_1\setminus\{0\},\tag{1} \] where \(\nabla_2u=\{D^\alpha u:|\alpha|=1,2\}\). The coefficients are subject to satisfy some ``non-standard'' ellipticity condition in the sense that \[ \sum_{|\alpha|=1,2}A_{\alpha}(x,\xi)\xi_\alpha\geq c\left\{\sum_{|\alpha|=1}|\xi_\alpha|^{q(x)}+ \sum_{|\alpha|=2}|\xi_\alpha|^{p(x)}\right\}, \] and growth conditions are defined accordingly. The main theorem asserts that if a solution \(u\) satisfies \[ u(x)\leq K|x|^{\frac{q^+-N}{q^+-1}+\sigma}, \] where \(q^+=\sup_\Omega q(x)\) and \(\sigma\) depends on the variations of \(q(x)\), then the solution extends as a solution in \(B_1\). The reviewer is a little astonished that there are no sign assumptions on \(u\) (positivity or absolute value) in the a priori upper estimate satisfied by \(u\) in the main theorem.
