The paper under review studies the class of conditionally positive definite unilateral weighted shifts. The paper begins with a characterization of the conditional positive definiteness of unilateral weighted shifts in terms of the moment sequences (see Theorem 3.1). Similar to various known classes like subnormal contractions and complete hyperexpansions, this class also has an integral representation (see Theorem 4.1). The description of the associated representing triplet is provided and analysed for properties like the compactness of the components in this triplet (see Section 6). One of the main results of this paper solves the backward extension problem for conditionally positive definite unilateral weighted shifts (see Theorem 7.2). The paper also discusses the flatness problem in this context, emphasising differences from a similar problem for subnormal unilateral weighted shifts.
