The Aubry-Mather theory is a tool for the study of special Lagrangian and Hamiltonian systems. Important examples arise from Riemannian and Finsler manifolds. The present paper is an approach to the Aubry-Mather theory on Lorentzian manifolds, namely on Class A spacetimes. These are defined by the minimal requirements to support an Aubry-Mather theory. The results concern for example maximal measures, calibrations, Mather's graph theorem. Examples which show that the results are optimal are presented.
