The authors developed in several previous studies [see e.g. the authors, Proc. R. Soc. Lond., Ser. A, Math. Phys. Eng. Sci. 455, No.~1992, 4277-4304 (1999; Zbl 0967.76067)] a cell boundary element method for solving viscous fluid-structure interaction problems described by Navier-Stokes equations. With this paper the authors start to demonstrate the applicability of the method. Here the method has been applied for computing two-dimensional steady-state and time-dependent vortex shedding, and for computing incompressible viscous fluid flow around an isolated circular cylinder and around two cylinders -- in side-by-side and in tandem arrangement -- in uniform far-field flow.
