This survey article reviews classical and recent results on rigidity problems in symmetrization theory. The rigidity problem is to understand whether the symmetrization procedure is strictly monotone when applied to nonsymmetric objects. The author starts with the rigidity problem for Steiner's inequality, which states that the perimeter of a measurable set in \(\mathbb{R}^n\) does not increase under Steiner symmetrization. The main part of the paper is devoted to formulation of sufficient conditions for the rigidity problem for Steiner's inequality for \(v\)-distributed sets of finite perimeter in \(\mathbb{R}^n\) and introduction of necessary delicate tools from geometric measure theory. The author presents also rigidity results on the Gaussian isoperimetric problem and Ehrhard's symmetrization. At the end of the paper he discusses some open problems.
