The authors address the following question: Let \(u\) and \(\nu\) be signed measures with compact support. Suppose that there exists a polynomial \(p(x)\) such that the supports of \(u\) and \(\nu\) are contained in the zero set of \(p\). Under which conditions do \(u\) and \(\nu\) coincide? The method depends on a definition of a multivariate Markov transform which is another major objective of this paper. The classical notion of an orthogonal polynomial of the second kind is generalized to the multivariate setting. It is shown to be a polyharmonic function which has similar features to those in the one dimensional case.
