Let \((M,\rho)\) be a metric space. The following are the main results of the paper: \textbf{Theorem 1.} Let \({\mathcal F}\) be a weakly left divisible semigroup of weak contractions of \(M\) into itself, such that \textbf{i)} the orbits with respect to \({\mathcal R}:=(\equiv_{{\mathcal F}}^1)\) are closed in \(M\) and \textbf{ii)} every orbit has at least one end. Then, the associated map \(\widehat \rho([x],[y])=\inf\{\rho(u,v); u=\text{end\;of}\;[x], v=\text{end\;of}\;[y]\}\) is a metric on \(\widehat M:=M|_{{\mathcal R}}\). \textbf{Theorem 2.} Let \({\mathcal F}\) be a weakly right divisible semigroup of weakly expanding bijections of \(M\) onto itself, such that \textbf{i)} the orbits with respect to \({\mathcal S}:=(\equiv_{{\mathcal F}}^2)\) are closed in \(M\) and \textbf{ii)} every orbit has at least one origin, then the associated map \(\widehat \rho([x],[y])=\inf\{\rho(u,v); u=\text{origin\;of}\;[x], v=\text{origin\;of}\;[y]\}\) is a metric on \(\widehat M:=M|_{{\mathcal S}}\).
