Noncommutative standard table algebras with at most one nontrivial multiplicity have an irreducible character of degree two from a broad collection of table algebras that are in some sense minimal with respect to being noncommutative. In this article under review, the authors classify them up to isomorphism, in terms of a finite abelian group and one of several specific families of table algebras, of dimension \(5\), \(6\), \(7\), or \(8\); with one other variation, related to the \(7\)-dimensional case. The main theorem is stated explicitly at the end of introductory section. It has applications to association schemes of low rank, and may be regarded as stemming from a very special prototype, the classification of the nonabelian finite complex linear groups of degree two.
