The authors obtain sharp large deviations estimates for a Gibbs measure of points along which certain Cesáro averages belong to shrinking intervals. These averages are constructed by iterating the return map to bases of a Markov partition of an Axiom A flow restricted to a basic set. Similar results for Axiom A diffeomorphisms were obtained by \textit{M. Pollicott} and \textit{R. Sharp} [Commun. Math. Phys. 290, No. 1, 321--334 (2009; Zbl 1193.37038)].
