The authors introduce Orlicz mean zonoid operators. Let \(\phi:{\mathbb R} \to [0,\infty)\) be a convex function with \(\phi(0)=0\) and such that \(\phi\) is strictly decreasing on \((-\infty,0)\) and strictly increasing for \((0,\infty)\). For convex bodies \(K,L\subset {\mathbb R}^n\), they define the zonoid \(Z_{\phi}(K,L)\) through its support function by \[ h(Z_{\phi}(K,L), x) = \inf\Big\{\lambda>0: \frac 1{V(K)\,V(L)} \int_K \int_L \phi \big(\frac{x\cdot (y-z)}{\lambda}\big)\,dy\,dz \leq 1 \Big\}. \] The case \(\phi(t)=|t|\) and \(K=L\) is the mean zonoid of \(K\) introduced by \textit{G. Zhang} [Geom. Dedicata 39, No. 2, 213--222 (1991; Zbl 0734.52006)]. The authors show that the operator \(Z_{\phi}\) is commutative, GL\((n)\) covariant and continuous in each argument with respect to the Hausdorff metric. They also show that \[ V(Z_{\phi}(B_K, B_L)) \leq V(Z_{\phi}(K,L)) \] with equality if \(K\) and \(L\) are dilates of ellipsoids with the same centers, where \(B_K\) is the centered ball with the same volume as \(K\).
