As it is well-known, if a solution of the Cauchy functional equation is bounded on an open set then it has to be continuous. Motivated by this basic result, the authors consider homomorphisms from a normed space into a topological group. Assuming boundedness in a neighbourhood (in the relative topology) of an extremal point of the unit sphere, they derive the linearity, closedness of the graph or continuity. Not claiming completeness, let us present here one of the results. (Here \(S\) denotes the unit sphere, and \(S_{e,\varepsilon}:=S\cap B(e,\varepsilon)\).) Theorem. Let \((X,\|\cdot\|)\) be a real Banach space and let \(G\) be a Fréchet space, that is, a real locally convex linear complete metric space. If \(a:X\to G\) is an additive mapping bounded on \(S_{e,\varepsilon}\) for some \(\varepsilon>0\) and some \(e\in S\) being an extremal point of \(S\), then \(a\) is continuous.
