Let \(L(H)\) be the algebra of all bounded linear operators on a Hilbert space. Let \(T\in L(H)\) and \(T= U(T)\) be the polar decomposition of \(T\). An operator \(T= U(T)\) is said to be semi-hyponormal if \(|T|\geq |T^*|\). In this paper, the authors prove a trace formula for the polar decomposition of a semi-hyponormal operator \(T= U(T)\) with \(|T|-|T^*|\in C_1\), where \(C_1\) denotes the set of all trace class operators, i.e., \[ \text{Tr}([\varphi(|T|, U),\psi(|T|,U)])= {1\over 2\pi} \iint T(\varphi,\psi)(r,e^{i\theta}) e^{i\theta} g(r\cos\theta, rsm\theta)\,dr\,d\theta, \] where \(\varphi(r,z)\), \(\psi(r,z)\) are Laurent polynomials such that \(\varphi(0,z)= \psi(0,z)= 0\) and \([\cdot ,\cdot ]\) denotes the commutator. In addition, they prove a trace formula for the Cartesian decomposition of the same operators.
