A one-dimensional formal group F over an algebraically closed field can be considered as a specific element in \(K[[ x_ 1,x_ 2]]\). If this element is algebraic over \(K(x_ 1,x_ 2)\), then F is called an algebraic formal group. Such formal groups arise e.g. as formal groups associated with one-dimensional algebraic groups called formal algebraic groups. The main result of this note is, that every algebraic formal group is a formal algebraic group (up to isomorphism). The proof follows from a study of the differentials of certain curves.
