A polynomial \(Q_n\) of exact degree \(n\) (called majorant) and a mesh \(\Delta=\{t_j\}_{j=0}^n\), \(-1=t_0<\dots<t_n=1\), are said to admit DS-inequality if for an arbitrary algebraic polynomial \(f\) of degree at most \(n\), the assumptions \(| f(t_j)| \leq | Q_n(t_j)|\) \((j=0,\dots,n)\) imply \(\| f^{(k)}\| \leq \| Q_n^{(k)}\|\) for \(k=1,\dots,n\), where \(\| \cdot\|\) is the sup norm on [-1,1]. By the classical \textit{R. J. Duffin} and \textit{A. C. Schaeffer} result [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 50, 517-528 (1941; Zbl 0025.31403)] a model example of such a couple are the Chebyshev polynomial \(T_n\) and the local extrema points of \(T_n\), \(t_j=\cos(j\pi/n)\) \((j=0,\dots,n)\). Other examples can be found in papers by Rahman and Schmeisser, Shadrin and Bojanov and Nikolov. In this interesting paper, the author proves some new DS-type inequalities. To be more specific, for a fixed mesh \(\Delta\), the author finds a family of polynomials which may serve as majorants in DS inequalities related to \(\Delta\). There are also established Duffin-Schaeffer-Schur type inequalities where the majorants are assumed to vanish at the points \(-1\) and \(1\).
