Let \(\Omega\subset{\mathbb C}^n\) be a bounded symmetric domain, \(K(z,\overline{z})\) the Bergman kernel for \(\Omega\) and \(d\lambda\) the Lebesgue measure. Define a family of measures on \(\Omega\) by \(d\mu_\hbar=c(\hbar)K(z,\overline{z})^{1-1/\hbar}d\lambda\), where \(c(\hbar)\) is the normalization constant. Let \(L_\hbar(\Omega)\) denote the space of square-integrable functions with respect to \(d\mu_\hbar\), \(H_\hbar(\Omega)\) the space of holomorphic functions in \(L_\hbar(\Omega)\) and let \(P_\hbar:L_\hbar(\Omega)\to H_\hbar(\Omega)\) denote the projection. For a function \(\varphi\in C_0(\Omega)\) let \(M_\varphi\) denote the operator of multiplication by \(\varphi\). The Berezin quantization for \(\varphi\) is the family of operators \(T_\hbar(\varphi)=P_\hbar M_\varphi\) in \(H_\hbar(\Omega)\). The main result of the paper is that the family \(T_\hbar\) defines an asymptotic homomorphism from \(C_0(\Omega)\) into the algebra of compact operators on \(H_\hbar(\Omega)\), hence the Berezin quantization is associated to a \(K\)-homology element of \(\Omega\). It is also shown that this element coincides with the \(K\)-homology element defined by the Dolbeault operator on \(\Omega\).
