The author uses Thron's parabola sequence theorem and the oval sequence theorem to construct better approximations of a function by means of their continued fraction expansions. He indicates how to obtain truncation error bounds and gives some symmetrical illustrations and examples of such bounds for the continued fractions of \(\text{arc\,tan\,}z\), \(\text{tan\,}z\), the incomplete gamma function and the complementary error function. The paper demonstrates general techniques and the ideas can be generalized to more general continued fractions.
