The author proposes an answer to the question what ground is sensitive to. He builds on, and modifies, the view implicit in the semantics of ground that \textit{K. Fine} has developed in his papers [``Guide to ground'', in: Metaphysical grounding. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press. 37--80 (2012); Rev. Symb. Log. 5, No. 1, 1--25 (2012; Zbl 1250.03010)]. The key element of his proposal is the notion of a mode of verification, which corresponds to a certain kind of answer to the question how a truth is verified by a fact. It is shown how various competing views of the structural principles of ground, as well as of ground-theoretic equivalence, may be implemented within a formal framework.
