Let \(G\) be a finite group and \(\chi\) be a faithful character of \(G\) of degree \(n\). Let \(L=\{\chi (g)\mid g\in G,\;g\neq 1\}\). The set \(L\) is called the type of the pair \((G,\chi)\). The pair \((G,\chi)\) is said to be normalized if \((\chi,1_G)_G=0\) and is called sharp if \(|G|=\prod_{\alpha\in L}(n-\alpha)\). \textit{P. J. Cameron} and \textit{M. Kiyota} [J. Algebra 115, No. 1, 123-143 (1988; Zbl 0651.20010)] posed the question of classifying all the finite groups \(G\) having a character \(\chi\) such that \((G,\chi)\) is of type \(L\), where \(L\) is a given set of algebraic integers. In the paper under review, the authors classify all finite groups \(G\) with non-trivial centre and having a generalized character \(\chi\) such that \((G,\chi)\) is sharp and normalized of type \(\{-2,1\}\) or \(\{-1,2\}\).
