From the introduction of this quite remarkable paper: The unipotent characters play a particular role in the representation theory of the finite groups of Lie type \(G(q)\). Their degrees depend, when considered as polynomials in \(q\), only on the Weyl group of \(G(q)\). Lusztig has shown that more generally it is possible to define unipotent degrees for arbitrary finite Coxeter groups. For the two infinite series of \(n\)-dimensional complex reflection groups, which may be generated by \(n\) of their reflections, we construct a set of unipotent degrees. They have the same combinatorial properties as the degrees of unipotent characters of the finite Weyl groups. For instance they are connected to the fake degrees by a Fourier transform.
