The paper presents a direct method for solving linear ordinary differential equations with constant coefficients by means of divided difference functionals. The explicit formulas for the solution of an initial value problem, which are well known from Laplace transform or operational calculus, are obtained without such means. The method is also applied to systems and matrix differential equations.
