\textit{A. Katok} [Publ. Math., Inst. Hautes Étud. Sci. 51, 137--173 (1980; Zbl 0445.58015)] proved that, for a \(C^2\) diffeomorphism \(f\) of a compact manifold preserving an ergodic hyperbolic measure with positive entropy, there exists a sequence of horseshoes. Furthermore, the topological entropy of \(f\) restricted to horseshoes can be arbitrarily close to the measure-theoretic entropy. There are many applications and extensions of this result. In the present paper, the authors consider the case when \(f:\ M\to M\) is a \(C^{1+\alpha}\) diffeomorphism on a compact Riemannian manifold \(M\) and \(\mu\) is a hyperbolic ergodic SRB \(f\)-invariant probability measure. They show that there exists a sequence of hyperbolic sets \(\Lambda_n\) and a sequence of ergodic measures \(\mu_n\) supported on \(\Lambda_n\) such that \(\mu_n\) converges to \(\mu\) in the \(\mathrm{weak}^*\) topology and the Hausdorff dimension of \(\Lambda_n\) on the unstable manifold tends to the dimension of the unstable manifolds.
