In this paper, the two step reduction procedure in contact geometry of second order is investigated. This work represents a natural continuation of a previous research paper [the author, Abel Symp. 5, 335--386 (2009; Zbl 1187.58003)]. Moreover, as a consequence of the mathematical developments presented in this paper, several examples of parabolic geometries are analyzed. For the entire collection see [Zbl 1437.53042].
