Let \((a_n)\) and \((b_n)\) be two sequences of non-negative integers satisfying the conditions \[ a_n<b_n,\,\,\,n=1,2,3,\dots, \] and \[ \lim_{n \to \infty} b_n=+\infty. \] The authors give a generalization of the deferred Cesàro transformation, due to \textit{R. P. Agnew} [Ann. Math. (2) 33, 413--421 (1932; Zbl 0005.06203)], of the form \[ D_n=\frac{S_{a_n+1}+S_{a_n+2}+\dots+S_{b_n}}{b_n-a_n}, \] where \((S_n)\) is a sequence of real or complex numbers. They deal with the approximation by the generalized deferred Cesàro means in a generalized Hölder metric and present some applications of the approach related to some sequence classes.
