The authors study, in the context of commutative rings, additional conditions on a Bézout domain to be an Elementary Divisor Ring (EDR), see [\textit{I. Kaplansky}, Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 66, 464--491 (1949; Zbl 0036.01903)]. It is well known that every EDR is a Bézout ring and that the converse does not necessarily hold. In order to show examples of Bézout domains which are EDR, the authors use the formerly introduced notion of ``stable range 1.5'' (for each $a,b\in{R}$ and $0\neq{c}\in{R}$ satisfying $aR+bR+cR=R$, there exists $r\in{R}$ such that $(a+br)R+cR=R$), and show that any Bézout domain of stable range 1.5 is an EDR.
