A Valdivia compact is a compact space \(X\) which can be embedded in some power of \(\mathbb R\) as the closure of a subset of a \(\Sigma\)-product. It is shown that a compact group is a Valdivia compact (or equivalently, a retract of a Valdivia compact) if and only if it is a product of metrizable compacta. This result extends (to the non-Abelian case) a result and answers a question of Kubiś.
