In this interesting paper, the authors construct singular solutions to the Yamabe equation using a reduction of the problem in an equivariant setting. This leads to a non-trivial geometric example where the analysis is simpler than in the Mazzeo-Pacard program. In more detail, let \((M,g)\) be an \(N\)-dimensional compact Riemannian manifold, \(p>1\), \(h\in C^1(M)\), and \(a\in C^2(M)\) with \(\min_M a>0\). Under the assumptions that the anisotropic operator \(-\operatorname{div}_g(a\nabla_g \cdot)+ah\) is coercive in \(H^1(M)\), and \(\frac{N}{N-2}<p<\frac{N+2}{N-2}\), the main result of this paper proves that the problem \[ -\operatorname{div}_g(a\nabla_g u)+ahu=au^p, \ \ u>0 \ \ \text{ in } (M,g) \] has a solution which is singular at a point \(\xi_0\in M\). The proof follows the lines as in [\textit{R. Mazzeo} and \textit{F. Pacard}, J. Differ. Geom. 44, No. 2, 331--370 (1996; Zbl 0869.35040)]. The construction provided also gives a non-trivial example of a weak solution to the Yamabe problem involving an equation with smooth coefficients.
