A classical result about totally ordered fields says that they can always be embedded in a totally ordered power series field with coefficients in the field of real numbers. Related embedding theorems are known for totally and lattice-ordered groups. The present paper explores to what extent there are analogous embeddings of lattice-ordered fields into a certain kind of generalized power series algebras, called convolution algebras. In the process the author carefully discusses some of the most fundamental structures in lattice-ordered fields, such as the set of basic elements or the set of totally positive elements.
