A classical result, essentially due to \textit{A. Grothendieck} [``Produits tensoriels topologiques et espaces nucléaires'', Mem. Am. Math. Soc. 16 (1955; Zbl 0123.30301)], states that the approximation property (AP) of a dual space \(X^*\) is metric whenever \(X^*\) or \(X^{**}\) has the Radon-Nikodým property (RNP). A version of the proof of \textit{E. Oja} [RACSAM, Rev. R. Acad. Cienc. Exactas Fís. Nat., Ser. A Mat. 100, No. 1--2, 325--331 (2006; Zbl 1112.46017)] deals with the weak metric AP of the original space \(X\) and uses lifting techniques to return to the dual space. The author of the paper under review streamlines this proof, eliminating the need to enter the original space and shows that the only essential component of the proof is Oja's ``RNP impact lemma''. He expresses the weak metric AP and notions of a similar kind in a concise language of systems of seminorms on operator spaces and provides results in the general setting of convex APs.
