For a compact hyperbolic \(n\)-manifold \(M\) with totally geodesic boundary, the orthospectrum of \(M\), which was first introduced by Basmajian, is the set (with multiplicities) of lengths of geodesic arcs perpendicular to \(\partial M\) at the endpoints, and is denoted by \(\Lambda_M\). In this paper, the authors show that there is a monotonically decreasing function \(F_n: \mathbb R_+ \rightarrow \mathbb R_+\) depending only on \(n\) such that the volume of \(M\) is equal to \[ \;\sum_{l \in \Lambda_M}F_n(l). \] An integral formula for \(F_n\), which gives rise to an explicit expression in the case when \(n\) is even, is given. This leads to a lower bound for the volume in terms of the area of the boundary. This last result is related to work of Miyamoto and Kojima, in which they used a different technique to obtain such a lower bound.
