Let \(A\) be a \(d\)-dimensional smooth algebra over a perfect field \(k\) of characteristic \(\not =2\) and \(Um_{n+1}(A)\) the set of unimodular rows of length \(n+1\). The group of elementary transformations \(E_{n+1}(A)\subset \mathrm{SL}_{n+1}(A)\) acts on \(Um_{n+1}(A)\) and the set of orbits \(Um_{n+1}(A)/E_{n+1}(A)\) has a natural structure of group if \(n\geq (d+2)/2\) after van der Kallen. Here, the author shows that for \(d>2\), \(Um_{d+1}(A)/E_{d+1}(A)\) is isomorphic to a cohomology group \(H^d(A,G^{d+1})\) defined in a previous paper of the author [Chow-Witt groups. Mém. Soc. Math. Fr., Nouv. Sér. 113, 1--197 (2008; Zbl 1190.14001)]. If \(d=2\) and \(\mathrm{char}\;k=0\) then it shows that \(Um_{d+1}(A)/SL_{d+1}(A)\cong H^2(A,G^3)/\mathrm{SL}_3(A)\), which extends a theorem of Morel.
