The paper presents a mathematical analysis of a new matching Xfem approach. The method is applied to a two-dimensional elasticity problem for a cracked domain \(\Omega \) which is partitioned into two subdomains \(\Omega _1\) and \(\Omega _2\) such that the crack tip belongs to \(\Omega _2\). The authors present the hybrid weak formulation and existence and uniqueness results. The weak formulation involves an integral matching condition of mortar type on the interface between the two subdomains. The authors give an error estimate and establish an approximation property for the multiplier space used to define the integral matching. Some numerical experiments show the advantages of the integral matching Xfem compared to former Xfem approaches.
