    The main purpose of this paper is to generalize the well-known identity Log Det = Trace Log from determinants to resultants. In a lapidary form this generalization may be formulated as follows: the logarithm of the resultant of \(n\) homogeneous polynomials \((x_i )^{r_i } - f_i (x_1 ,x_2 ,\dots,x_n ) = 0\) of degrees \(r_i, i = 1,2,\dots,n\), is given by \[ \begin{multlined}\det R_{r_1\dots r_n } \left\{ {\begin{matrix} {(x_1 )^{r_1 } - f_1 (x_1 ,x_2 ,\dots,x_n )} \\ \vdots \\ {(x_n )^{r_n } - f_n (x_1 ,x_2 ,\dots,x_n )} \\ \end{matrix} } \right\}=\\ =\left[ {\sum\limits_{k = 0}^\infty {\frac{{r_1 }}{{(r_1 k)!}}} (\hat f_1 )^k } \right] \dots\left[ {\sum\limits_{k = 0}^\infty {\frac{{r_n }}{{(r_n k)!}}} (\hat f_n )^k } \right]\log \det (I - A),\end{multlined} \] where \(I\) is the unit matrix of order \(n\), \(A\) is an auxiliary matrix of order \(n\), and \(\hat f_i\) are the differential operators \(\hat f_i = f_i \left( {\frac{\partial }{{\partial A_{i1} }},\dots,\frac{\partial }{{\partial A_{in} }}} \right), i = 1,\dots,n\), associated to the mentioned polynomials. This generalized identity allows obtaining explicit polynomial formulas for multidimensional resultants: for any number of variables, the resultant is given by a Schur polynomial. Several integral representations for resultants, as well as a sum-over-paths representation are finally given.
