In a previous paper [Ark. Mat. 45, No. 1, 31-48 (2007; Zbl 1154.43002] the author described a calculus for a class of convolution operators on a nilpotent homogeneous Lie group \(G\). Properties of composition and boundedness were proved there. The paper under review deals with the problem of invertibility of such operators: one proves that if a symbol \(A \in S^{m}(G)\) satisfies some ellipticity condition, then the corresponding convolution operator is invertible and its inverse has a symbol \(B \in S^{-m}(G)\). The symbol class \(S^{m}(G)\) is the class of tempered distributions \(A\) whose Fourier transform \(a\) satisfies on the dual of the Lie algebra of the group \(G\) the estimates \(| D^{\alpha}a(\xi) | \leq C_{\alpha}(1+ | \xi | )^{m- | \alpha |}\), where \(| \alpha |\) is the homogeneous length of the multiindex \(\alpha\). As a corollary, a generalization of Melin's construction of a parametrix for Rockland operators is given.
