``Directing orbits of discrete chaotic systems'' means, following the authors, a two stage process: First, use an open loop control and solve a classical discrete-time optimal control problem. This is demonstrated by open-loop control of the second order Hénon system (map) and the Ikeda system. Second, near the target state feedback is used and is based on poles shift of the linearized system. The existence of a contracting feedback correction for any continuously differentiable map was proved. Again, the Hénon system is used for demonstration of the feedback control even in the presence of noise.
