This paper considers the map \(T_f(x)=f(x) \pmod{1}\) generated from a map \(f: [0,1] \rightarrow [0,2]\) which is continuous, strictly increasing, and piecewise differentiable. The aim is to find conditions on \(f\) which imply that \(T_f\) has a dense orbit (\(T_f\) is transitive). The authors prove that if \(\beta \geq \root{3}\of{2}\), \(\inf f' \geq \beta\), and \(f(0) \geq \frac{1}{\beta+1}\), then \(T_f\) is transitive. Counterexamples are provided where these assumptions are not satisfied. In the linear case, where \(f(x)=\beta x + \alpha\), necessary and sufficient conditions are given for \(T_f\) to be transitive. Some closely related papers include [the first author, Ann. Math.
