The authors consider mathematical issues related to the electromagnetic problem of the behaviour of the electric potential in the gap between two perfect conductors when the latter are approaching to each other. The key feature is a complicated mutual topology of two adjacent conducting subdomains and the main result consists of obtaining optimal smooth bounds in terms of exploring the potential's gradient.
