The main presentation of the paper is divided into 4 sections. The history of the main content of the paper is given in Section 1 and Section 2. The author mainly focuses on: \((i)\) metrics taking values in a linearly ordered abelian group \(G\) (\(\omega_{\mu}\)-metric spaces); for a topological space \(X,\) the class of such metrics on \(X\) generating the same topology as that on \(X\) is denoted by Met\((X;G)\) and \((ii)\) ultrametrics taking values in a bottomed linearly ordered set \(S\) for a topological space \(X\). The class of ultra metrics on \(X\) that generate the topology which is the same as the topology on \(X\) is denoted by UMet\((X;S)\). Section 2 presents the main structure of the paper on metric spaces and ultrametric spaces and the progress made in the literature regarding these spaces and the problem under study on the simultaneous extensions of metric spaces and ultrametric spaces. The main results of the paper which are proved in Section 4 are: Theorem 1.1. which provides conditions under which a topological space \(X\) possessing an infinite metrizable gauge is rectifiable for every closed non-empty subset \(A\) of \(X\). The application of Theorem 1.1 is given as Proposition 3.2. The second main result, namely, Theorem 1.2, is an anologue of the well-known Hausdorff metric extension theorem but for generalised metric spaces, the author unlike the construction done in the literature utilizes monotone extensors of generalized metrics to provide a detailed proof of Theorem 1.2; Theorem 1.2 is used to prove Theorem 1.3 which is also the main result of the paper. The final part of Section 4 is devoted to the proof of the fourth main result, namely, Theorem 1.4 which characterizes a finally \(\kappa\)-compact topological space possessing an infinite metrizable gauge using the completeness of generalised metrics. Theorem 1.4 is an analogue of Niemytzki-Tychonoff's theorem albeit for generalized metrics.
