A map Virasoro algebra if a Lie algebra of the form \(\mathfrak{g}:= \mathrm{Vir}\otimes A\), where \(\mathrm{Vir}\) is the Virasoro algebra and \(A\) is a finitely generated commutative associative unital algebra over complex numbers. A quasifinite \(\mathfrak{g}\)-module is a module on which the action of the Cartan subalgebra of \(\mathrm{Vir}\) is semi-simple with finite multiplicities. The main result of the paper under review asserts that any simple quasifinite \(\mathfrak{g}\)-module is one of the following: a single point evaluation module corresponding to a Virasoro module of the intermediate series; a finite tensor product of single point generalized evaluation modules corresponding to irreducible highest weight modules; a finite tensor product of single point generalized evaluation modules corresponding to irreducible lowest weight modules. The paper also gives a sufficient condition for a Verma \(\mathfrak{g}\)-module to be simple, in the case that \(A\) is an infinite dimensional integral domain, this condition is also necessary.
