Review text

Improving a result of \textit{K. Numakura} [Duke Math. J. 24, 671-680 (1957; Zbl 0218.22004)] the author shows that if \(P\) is a prime open ideal of a compact semigroup \(S\), then there exists a group element \(g\in S\) such that \(P\) coincides with the largest ideal contained in \(S\backslash g\).
