A characterization of some finite quasisimple groups using their character codegrees

From MaRDI portal

Let \(G\) be a finite group and, for \(\chi \in \mathrm{Irr}(G)\), define the character codegree by \(\mathrm{cod}(\chi)=|G:\ker\chi|/\chi(1)\) and \(\mathrm{cod}(G)=\big \{\mathrm{cod}(\chi) \; \big | \; \chi\in\mathrm{Irr}(G) \big \}\). Motivated by conjectures on determining finite simple groups from their character codegrees, the paper proposes an extension to finite quasisimple groups. If \(\mathrm{cod}(G)\subseteq \mathrm{cod}(H)\) and \(H\) is quasisimple, then \(G\cong H/Z\) for some normal subgroup \(Z\) of \(H\) with \(1\le Z\le Z(H)\), moreover, \(\mathrm{cod}(G)=\mathrm{cod}(H)\) if and only if \(G\cong H\).\N\NThe paper confirms this conjecture for \(H\cong \mathrm{SL}_2(q)\) with \(q\ge 5\) and for \(H\cong \mathrm{SL}_3(q)\) with \(q\ge 2\).
