A determinant for automorphisms of groups
In this paper, the author introduces a novel framework for studying automorphisms of direct products of groups via a determinant function defined on a class of matrix-type endomorphisms.\N\NThe central object of the theory is the set \(\mathsf{A}_{H,K}\) of structured endomorphisms with central image components. Although \(\mathsf{A}_{H,K}\) is not, in general, a subgroup of \(\operatorname{Aut}(H \times K)\), the paper identifies natural group-theoretic conditions (such as total incompatibility) under which this inclusion holds and may even be an equality. This leads to a matrix-based description of automorphisms, along with efficient criteria for invertibility. The approach extends to direct products of \(n\) groups and several examples and computational applications are provided.
