A factorization method for inverse elastic scattering in cavity structure

From MaRDI portal

This work investigates how to determine the shape and position of an internal elastic cavity using near-field data from internal measurements. The authors focus on two-dimensional and three-dimensional cases, requiring only two or three specific polarization directions, respectively. They introduce a scattered tensor to define a well-posed near-field operator, central to the factorization method, and rigorously establish its theoretical properties and factorization for Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions.\N\NThe paper proves uniqueness results for identifying cavity boundaries and provides a special proof for the disk cavity, where a single point source and polarization suffice. The authors highlight two key contributions: first, they reconstruct the cavity using only near-field data from a few polarizations; second, they improve reconstruction accuracy by fitting the indicator function's boundary using a truncated Fourier series.
