A noise reduction problem arising in structural acoustics: A three-dimensional solution
This paper examines in detail a coupled partial differential equation system arising from various noise reduction problems. In a typical three-dimensional chamber the acoustic pressure, representing the unwanted noise, is characterized by a hyperbolic wave equation. The floor of the chamber is subjected to the action of a piezo-ceramic patch (smart material), and the objective is to reduce the acoustic pressure by means of vibrations of the floor which can be modeled by a hyperbolic Kirchhoff equation. The analysis is detailed and a number of useful estimates are derived, one of which is the absorption of energy from lower-order terms.NEWLINENEWLINEFor the entire collection see [Zbl 0956.00042].
