A posteriori error estimates in finite difference techniques

The theory of a posteriori error estimates originally proposed for the finite element method for elliptic PDE's is adapted for the finite difference formulation. Two examples of the error analysis are presented, namely: 2D inviscid flow about a bluff body and a membrane analogy on a square domain.
