A proof of the impossibility of the coexistence of two Mathieu functions.

Die Mathieusche Gleichung \[ \frac{d^2 y}{dx^2} + (a + 16q \cos 2x) y = 0 \] besitzt bekanntlich dann und nur dann eine periodische Lösung, wenn \(a\) mit \(q\) auf eine bestimmte Weise verknüpft ist (so daß eine gewisse unendliche Determinante verschwindet). Verf. zeigt nun, daß in diesem Falle die zweite Lösung, abgesehen vom trivialen Falle \(q = 0\), unmöglich periodisch ausfallen kann.
