A remark on complexes of hyperbolic groups with finite edge groups

From MaRDI portal

A developable complex of hyperbolic groups is a complex of groups \((G,Y)\) whose local data arise from an actual group action on a simply connected polyhedral complex: This guarantees that the complex admits a geometric development and that its fundamental group acts properly on it.\N\NIn the paper under review, the author studies developable complexes with finite edge groups and hyperbolic development. Theorem~4.8 provides a clear description of uniform quasi-geodesics in the associated complex of spaces \(X\): for any vertices \(u,v\in B\), the subspace \(X[u,v]=p^{-1}([u,v])\) is uniformly quasi-isometrically embedded in \(X\), hence uniform quasi-geodesics in \(X[u,v]\) remain uniform quasi-geodesics in \(X\). Section~5 establishes criteria for local quasi-convexity: for regular Euclidean polygons (with at least four sides) and for finite CAT(0) square complexes, the fundamental group \(G=\pi_1(G,Y)\) is locally quasi-convex if and only if it satisfies the Howson property (Theorems~5.4, 5.6). Several further results relate hyperbolicity of \(G\) to hyperbolicity of the universal cover (Proposition~6.1, Corollary~6.2).
