A renormalization scheme for semi-regular continued fractions
A `slow' and a `fast' map parameterised by \((x,y)\in[0,1]^2\) are constructed so that the slow map develops a semi-regular continued fraction expansion for \(x\) according to the parameter \(y\). This is used to build a renormalization scheme that gives all semi-regular continued fractions in a unified and natural way. The fast map is shown to preserve an absolutely continuous probability measure, and the slow map is shown to not preserve any such measure, but an infinite \(\sigma\)-finite absolutely continuous invariant measure is constructed for it. Substitutions that generate a symbolic coding for the orbit of \(y\) under rotation by \(x\) are described.
