Fit Generalized Additive Models (GAM) using 'mgcv' with 'parsnip'/'tidymodels' via 'additive' . 'tidymodels' is a collection of packages for machine learning; see Kuhn and Wickham (2020) ). The technical details of 'mgcv' are described in Wood (2017) .
