Algebraic geometry over groups

From MaRDI portal

The authors present, without any proofs, a theory for groups that parallels classical algebraic geometry. A group is called a ``\(G\)-group if it contains a copy of a fixed group \(G\). Thus, in the obvious way there is defined the category of \(G\)-groups. They describe morphisms and some operations in the derived category. The free \(G\)-groups are introduced. A \(G\)-equationally Noetherian group is defined as a group in which every set of equations is equivalent to some finite subset of itself. Equationally Noetherian groups play an important role in the theory. This class is wide, and a couple of examples are given. An algebraic set is defined as the set of all solutions of some set of equations. Given a \(G\)-group \(H\), the algebraic sets over \(H\) can be viewed as the objects of a category, where morphisms are defined by polynomial maps. It turns out that this category is isomorphic to a subcategory of the category of all \(G\)-groups. Some other notions as Zariski topology, ideal and so on are introduced and discussed in the paper. One can speak about the Nullstellensatz and other assertions. Some open questions are discussed too. For the entire collection see [Zbl 0931.00032].
