Amalgamating inverse semigroups over ample semigroups
A semigroup \textit{amalgam} is a 5-tuple \(\mathcal{A}=(S;T_1,T_2;\phi_1,\phi_2)\), where \(S\), \(T_1\), \(T_2\) are semigroups and \(\phi_i : S \to T_i\), \(i=1,2\), are semigroup monomorphisms. The amalgam \(\mathcal{A}\) is said to be \textit{strongly embeddable} (or simply \textit{embeddable}) if there are a semigroup \(T\) and monomorphisms \(\psi_i : T_i \to T\), \(i=1,2\), such that\N\begin{itemize}\N\item[(i)] \(\psi_1\circ \phi_1 = \psi_2\circ\phi_2\),\N\item[(ii)] for all \(t_1 \in T_1\) and \(t_2 \in T_2\) if \(\psi_1(t_1) = \psi_2(t_2)\), then there exists \(s \in S\) such that \(t_1 = \phi_1(s)\) and \(t_2 = \phi_2(s)\).\N\end{itemize}\NIf only (i) above holds, then \(\mathcal{A}\) is said to be \textit{weakly embeddable}.\N\NA subsemigroup \(S\) of an inverse semigroup \(T\) is called \textit{right ample} (\textit{left ample}) in \(T\) if for all \(s\in S\) one has \(s^{-1}s\in S\) (\(ss^{-1}\in S\)). Furthermore, \(S\) is \textit{ample} in \(T\) if it is both right and left ample in \(T\).\N\NThe author also introduces stronger notions of rich ampleness. More precisely, a subsemigroup \(S\) of an inverse semigroup \(T\) is \textit{rich right ample} (\textit{rich left ample}) in \(T\) if for all \(s,t\in S\) one has \(s^{-1}t\in S\cup S^{-1}\) (\(st^{-1}\in S\cup S^{-1}\)). Furthermore, \(S\) is \textit{rich ample} in \(T\) if it is both rich right and rich left ample in \(T\).\N\NIf \(T_1\) and \(T_2\) are inverse, \(S\) is non-inverse and \(\phi_1(S)\) is ample in \(T_1\), then it is proved that \(\mathcal{A}=(S;T_1,T_2;\phi_1,\phi_2)\) is not embeddable in any semigroup.\N\NHowever, if \(T_1\) and \(T_2\) are inverse, \(S\) is non-inverse and \(\phi_i(S)\) is rich ample in \(T_i\) for all \(i=1,2\), then \(\mathcal{A}=(S;T_1,T_2;\phi_1,\phi_2)\) is weakly (but not strongly) embeddable in an inverse semigroup.
